TRENTON – Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 347, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in honor of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Rosalynn passed away on November 19, 2023 at the age of 96, leaving behind an enduring legacy of humanitarianism.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Rosalynn Carter, who will be remembered as a dedicated First Lady and a fierce advocate for some of the most vulnerable in our society,” said Governor Murphy. “A champion for equal rights, Rosalynn took on the role of First Lady with compassion and a steadfast commitment to advancing opportunities for women and girls. Moreover, with bravery and unwavering dedication, she sought to advance the mental health and wellbeing of people across the country at a time when mental health was widely overlooked and stigmatized. Tammy and I extend our deepest sympathy to her family and friends, especially President Carter, her beloved husband.”
