Governor Murphy Directs the Lowering of U.S. and New Jersey Flags in Honor of New Jersey State Police Trooper Marcellus E. Bethea

TRENTON— Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 358, ordering U.S. and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Wednesday, May 15 in recognition and in mourning of New Jersey State Police Trooper Marcellus E. Bethea. Trooper Bethea passed away during training on Sunday, May 5, leaving behind his loving wife, Katarzyna, and their daughter, Bella. A resident of Florence, Trooper Bethea served for over eight years and was training to become a member of the elite Technical Emergency and Mission Specialist Unit.

“Trooper Bethea embodied the core values of the New Jersey State Police: Honor, Duty, and Fidelity, said Governor Murphy. “We owe a debt of gratitude to our State Police troopers that bravely and selflessly serve the people of New Jersey each day. This tragic loss has been felt across the state and Tammy and I send our deepest condolences to Trooper Bethea’s family, friends, and his fellow troopers.”
