Governor Murphy Endorses Senator Nellie Pou for Congress

TRENTON — Governor Murphy today endorsed Senator Nellie Pou to represent New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Pou is running in a special Democratic Convention on Thursday, August 29 for the Democratic nomination on the November 2024 ballot to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. The district includes parts of Passaic, Bergen, and Hudson Counties.

“New Jersey lost a giant with the passing of Congressman Bill Pascrell,” said Governor Murphy. “As we grieve the loss of a legend, we must come together to carry on his legacy of fighting for the people of North Jersey.”

“Senator Nellie Pou is the ideal public servant to succeed Congressman Pascrell and continue his life’s mission of building a stronger, fairer, more equitable, and more inclusive New Jersey for every family.”

“I’ve lost track of how many critical initiatives I’ve partnered with Nellie on over the past six and a half years. From expanding access to health care to making college more affordable for our state’s students — regardless of their immigration status — to enacting meaningful criminal justice reform, Nellie has passionately and successfully advanced a number of our shared priorities.”

“I know she’ll make New Jersey proud as the first Latina to represent our state in Congress, enriching the diversity of our congressional delegation. And beyond making history, she will dedicate every moment of her Congressional career to making progress on behalf of her constituents.”

“I look forward to doing everything I can to support her congressional campaign.”

New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District contains all or portions of 35 municipalities spanning Passaic, Bergen, and Hudson Counties, including Paterson, Passaic, Clifton, Haledon, Hawthorne, North Haledon, Pompton Lakes, Prospect Park, Wayne, Carlstadt, Cliffside Park, East Rutherford, Edgewater, Elmwood Park, Fairview, Franklin Lakes, Garfield, Hasbrouck Heights, Little Ferry, Lodi, Lyndhurst, Maywood, Moonachie, North Arlington, Oakland, Ridgefield, Rochelle Park, Rutherford, Saddle Brook, South Hackensack, Teterboro, Wallington, Wood-Ridge, Kearny, and Secaucus.
