Governor Murphy, Lieutenant Governor Way, and First Lady Tammy Murphy Endorse Marilyn Davis for Democratic National Committee Secretary

 

TRENTON — Governor Murphy, Lieutenant Governor Way, and First Lady Tammy Murphy today jointly endorsed Marilyn Davis for Secretary of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Marilyn is a longtime party leader and operative from New Jersey running to bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to the leadership team of the national Democratic Party.

 

“As the former DNC National Finance Chair under Chairman Howard Dean, I know what it takes to launch a 50-state strategy and rebuild our party from the ground up ,” said Governor Murphy. “I firmly believe we need a DNC leadership team committed to bringing our party back to basics and, in doing so, leading us to victory in red and blue states alike.”

 

“That’s why I’m endorsing Marilyn Davis for DNC Secretary,” continued Governor Murphy.  “Marilyn is a successful small business owner, veteran of five presidential campaigns, and longtime party leader and operative. She’s committed to doing the hard work necessary to unite our party and build the infrastructure necessary so we can win all across the country.”

 

“I’ve known Marilyn Davis for years and believe she will bring an energetic and fresh perspective to the role of DNC Secretary,” said Lieutenant Governor Way. “From her time on Capitol Hill to her various roles in corporate America, Marilyn has the breadth and depth of experience necessary to represent our party well in a national leadership role. She has my full and enthusiastic support.”

Democratic National Committee members will elect a new Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, National Finance Chair, Vice Chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Participation, and three other Vice Chairs at the DNC Winter Meeting this Saturday, February 1, 2025 in National Harbor, Maryland.

Biography for Marilyn D. Davis:

 

Marilyn D. Davis is a seasoned strategist, specializing in advocacy, organizing, and community engagement. With a diverse career encompassing employment with federal and state governments, organized labor, electoral and issue campaigns, and corporate America, she recently launched a public affairs firm on May 5, 2024. Her firm specializes in government affairs, political consulting, stakeholder engagement, and strategic partnerships. Prior to this venture, Ms. Davis spent nearly a decade as a senior government affairs director in the telecommunications industry.

 

Prior to her corporate work, she served as the national director of Community Engagement at the Democratic National Committee until December 2016, leading a team focused on engaging stakeholders across various communities in electoral politics and civic engagement. During the Obama-Biden Administration, she held a political appointee position at the U.S. Department of Labor, where she managed labor and African American engagement and served as the Deputy Director of the Office of Public Engagement.

 

Ms. Davis has played pivotal roles in multiple presidential campaigns, serving as a consultant to the Obama for America campaign in Florida in 2012 and as the Wisconsin Political Director for John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign. Additionally, she held senior positions on the U.S. Senate campaign and gubernatorial races for Jon Corzine. Her extensive political career also includes serving as Deputy Director for Congressional Affairs for the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee and Director of Constituency Outreach for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

 

Beginning her public service career on Capitol Hill, Ms. Davis worked for various members of Congress before becoming the Chief of Staff for former Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA). She has also held senior positions in state government, serving as the Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor and as Deputy Chief of Staff to former Governor Jon Corzine.
