Governor Murphy Nominates Patrick Callahan as Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police
Colonel Callahan has led the New Jersey State Police with honor and integrity,” Governor Murphy said. “He is an established law enforcement professional with a history of strong leadership. New Jersey is lucky to have him continue in this role and help keep our residents and state safer.”

Colonel Callahan was sworn in by Governor Chris Christie as Acting New Jersey State Police Superintendent on October 31, 2017. Prior to becoming Acting Superintendent, Callahan was the Deputy Superintendent of Operations, a role where he supervised and directed the activities of 1,800 enlisted members of the New Jersey State Police.
Callahan first enlisted in the State Police in 1995. During his tenure, he has also served as a Recovery Bureau Chief in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, as the Commanding Officer of the Emergency Management Section, as Assistant State Director of the Office of Emergency Management, and was the chairman of the Command and Control Subcommittee of the Emergency Management Section when New Jersey hosted Super Bowl XLVIII.
Colonel Callahan earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Villanova University and a Master of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He lives in Warren County with his wife Linda and their four children. Callahan’s father served as a major in the State Police.
