New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and US Senator Robert Menendez will be among the dignitaries at the 6th Annual Latino Action Network [LAN] Legislative Conference tomorrow, February 2, 2019 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., at the Robert Treat Hotel, 50 Park Place, Newark.

Juan Cartagena, President and General Counsel of Latino Justice and a prominent civil rights attorney and advocate will be the keynote speaker.

“This conference has always been about developing and refining a legislative and policy agenda for the Latino communities of New Jersey,” said LAN President Christian Estevez. “It helps us to refocus and analyze our priorities.”

Estevez continued: “We have achieved many things in the last few years including victories in affordable housing, the minimum wage, sick leave, and education. In 2018, we spearheaded efforts to secure financial aid for Dreamers wishing to attend college in New Jersey. In 2019, a major goal will be drivers’ license for undocumented immigrants. The conference breathes new life into our agenda because it is informed by our communities.”

The conference will feature panels with community leaders discussing many of the pressing issues facing Latinos in New Jersey including immigration, education, labor, housing, poverty, environmental justice, redistricting, and criminal justice reform. The conference program with a full schedule of panels and times can be found at: http://bit.ly/LAN-2019-Conference-Program-Schedule.

LAN is a broad, statewide coalition of Latino organizations dedicated to political empowerment, the promotion of civil rights, and the elimination of disparities in the areas of education, health, and employment. It was founded in 2009.
