Governor Richard Codey and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey Endorse Mikie Sherrill for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District

Florham Park, New Jersey– Today, Governor Richard Codey and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey announced their support for naval helicopter pilot and former federal prosecutor Mikie Sherrill for U.S. Congress. Mikie is running to replace Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. Governor Codey announced his endorsement over a breakfast at the Florham Park Diner where he was joined by Assemblywoman Jasey as well as elected officials from Morris County.

During the breakfast Governor Codey issued the following statement: “As a Navy pilot, federal prosecutor, wife, and mother of four children, Mikie understands and will be responsive to the needs and concerns of the residents of the 11th District. Mikie’s experience and temperament give her the ability to relate to both sides of the aisle, as well as the middle. In this challenging climate, that’s the kind of person we need fighting for us in Washington.”

Assemblywoman Jasey also had this to add to the endorsement: “Mikie Sherrill brings a unique and welcome perspective to the 11th Congressional District.  Her experience as a naval pilot and federal prosecutor give her the background to understand the challenges that face us and the grit to stand and fight for the District and for New Jersey.  Mikie’s candidacy comes at a time when it has never been more needed.  She is receptive to residents’ concerns and has the knowledge and skills to ably represent us, and I am proud to endorse her candidacy for election to Congress.”

In response, Mikie Sherrill released the following statement: “I deeply admire both Governor Codey and Assemblywoman Jasey and their tireless work on behalf of the people and the communities that make up New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. More than ever, we need someone in Washington who will stand up for our values and work to ensure we are improving the quality of life for everyone in New Jersey. That’s what Governor Codey and Assemblywoman Jasey have always done and that’s why I am so honored to have their endorsement. New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District needs champions at all levels and when I go to Washington I am looking forward to being another strong voice for New Jersey.”
