Governor Signs Marine Fisheries Funding
Trenton – Sportsmen’s advocacy group applauds swift action on badly needed pro-fisheries appropriation.
The New Jersey Outdoor Alliance today released a statement supporting the signing of S-2793/A-4255, which will bring the total appropriation for Marine Fisheries Funding (a key component of the budget for sportsmen and outdoor recreation enthusiasts throughout New Jersey) to $3.668 MILLION.
“As we have said before – New Jersey’s coastline and marine fisheries need this critical funding appropriation to ensure habitat protection and enforcement of regulations meant to protect and preserve our outdoor traditions and heritage for generations to come,” said NJOA Trustee Ed Markowski “The NJOA is thankful to the Governor for heeding the calls of New Jersey’s 1.2 million sportsmen and over 500,000 recreational saltwater anglers to pass this critical piece of funding. Additionally, we’d like to thank the sponsors; Assemblyman Andrzejczak, Assemblyman Land, Assemblyman Mazzeo, Senator Van Drew, Assemblyman Armato, Assemblyman Houghtaling, Assemblywoman Pinkin and the strong bipartisan majority in both the Assembly and Senate which passed this critical piece of funding legislation.”
The legislation, S-2793/A-4255, will provide a 2019 supplemental appropriation of $1.2 million to Shellfish and Marine Fisheries Management for the Bureau of Marine Fisheries in DEP. This critical funding will ensure prime habitat and fishing is protected for generations to come along New Jersey’s badly underfunded coastline. The legislation passed with strong bipartisan majorities in both houses, with the Senate voting 36 to 0 in favor and the Assembly voting 71 to 6 in favor – Governor Murphy signed the legislation on Friday.
