Greenstein Bill to Create “Teacher Appreciation Week” in New Jersey Clears Committee
TRENTON – The Senate Education Committee advanced legislation sponsored by Senator Linda Greenstein, which would designate the first full week of May each year as “Teacher Appreciation Week” throughout the state.
“There’s no time quite like the present to recognize the courageous and selfless efforts of our state’s educators, who have adapted to every challenge over the last few years, all the while keeping our children safe and inspired,” said Senator Greenstein (D-Mercer/Middlesex). “Honoring our educators with a week of appreciation will further promote cooperation between our lawmakers, parents, students, and educational boards across New Jersey.”
While “Teacher Appreciation Week” has been celebrated since 1985 nationally, SJR-93 would recognize the selfless efforts of New Jersey educators who have incessantly supported our children’s educational experience throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and other unexpected crises in recent years.
Even with these challenges, the educators of New Jersey have dedicated countless hours to formulating lesson plans, evaluating student progress, and counseling and coaching students, all to support their academic, social, and emotional well-being. Their contributions are why New Jersey is consistently ranked among the best public school systems in the country.
The bill was advanced in a 5-0 vote. |
