Greenstein Meets with Mayor Tamburro Over Legislative Budget’s  School Funding

MONROE – Senator Linda Greenstein met today with Monroe Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro to discuss the merits of the school funding proposal in the Legislature’s 2019 budget.  The Monroe school district is one of many across the state at a cumulative disadvantage from inadequate funding each year.  The budget, if approved by the governor, would revitalize the district and allow for much-needed programs and innovation.

“Supporting the children of Monroe is one of my top priorities and I am pleased that the budget includes a significant increase for our state underfunded schools,” said Mayor Tamburro. “I am eager for this funding to become law and I thank our legislators, school board, parents and advocates for getting us to this point.”

“Monroe hasn’t gotten its fair share of state aid for a decade,” said Senator Greenstein (D-Mercer/Middlesex). “The Legislature’s budget will rectify that inequity and bring things back into balance.

“With the governor’s signature, Monroe will receive an additional $2 million on top of its current school funding.  The children of Monroe are worth every penny of that.  And the community at large deserves the benefit that funding will bring.”

Monroe is one of 379 municipalities in the state that stands to benefit from earmarked school district funding.
