Greenstein, Pou Bill to Allow for Electronic

E-ZPass Notification Clears Senate

Trenton – In an effort to keep customers more informed of their E-ZPass usage, the Senate today approved legislation sponsored by Senators Linda Greenstein and Nellie Pou which would allow NJ E-ZPass customers to opt-in to receive electronic notification when their E-ZPass account is used at toll plazas operated by the New Jersey Transit Authority and the South Jersey Transit Authority.

“As of now, E-ZPass account holders can only receive their monthly statement via email or through regular mail,” said Senator Greenstein (D-Mercer/Middlesex). “With this bill, customers will have the option to know within 24 hours whether or not the toll was processed. Electronic notifications will allow customers to more immediately know that the toll was processed through their account correctly, making paying tolls a more seamless process.”

The bill, S-1654, would allow EZ-Pass customers to have the option to receive an electronic notification every time they pass through toll plazas along the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, and the Atlantic City Expressway, provided that the customer has an account with the New Jersey E-ZPass Customer Service Center.

“Under current law, E-ZPass is not required to notify their customers electronically, which can make it difficult to keep track of tolls,” said Senator Pou (D-Bergen/Passaic). “This bill would provide an additional, immediate notification whenever a customer passes through a toll plaza, allowing customers to be more informed of their toll usage.”

Under the bill, customers can receive notifications in the form of electronic mail, text messages, or through a mobile application.

The bill cleared the Senate by a vote of 33-0.
