Greenwald Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Ruling Against Inclusion of Proposed Census 2020 Citizen Question

(TRENTON) – Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald (D-Camden, Burlington) issued the following statement on today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling against proposed census citizenship question:

“Our government’s democratic principles are based on fairness and equality for every individual in this nation. The Trump administration’s proposed census question would have placed a hindrance on the communities we serve and infused a racial bias contrary to the goal of the Census.

“Today, the U.S. Supreme Court returned a decision right in line with majority public view: We must encourage participation in the Census not fear. With this ruling, the U.S. Census will continue to be an instrument in ensuring fairness and equity in representation of all communities throughout the nation. Every person in New Jersey can stand up and be counted in the 2020 Census.”
