GUSCIORA: PEREZ UNWILLING TO DEBATE BUT WANTS TO BULLY HIS WAY INTO CITY HALL

Issues Challenge to Perez to Come Out of Hiding And Debate

(Trenton, NJ) – Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, citing his opponent Paul Perez’s statement that “Reed has no business standing in my way right now,” blasted the challenger for going “missing” on previous candidate forums and canceling his participation in an up-coming debate sponsored by the Trentonian newspaper.

“No Mr. Perez, I will not get out of your way,” said Gusciora in response to his opponent’s statement to the New Jersey Globe.  “This is about Leadership.  I want to have a respectful dialogue on issues facing the Capital City.  All candidates owe that to the voters, and we can have no expectation that opponents simply get out of our way.”

Mr. Perez was absent at several candidate forums during the initial campaign. Gusciora noted that when the candidate spoke, he dropped some bombs, including his proposed “military style” policing on city streets.

“Mr. Perez claims to have all this executive experience but shys away   from public debates where his record could be scrutinized,” said Gusciora.  “It begs the question what happens when a senior citizen comes into City Hall looking for help; or a young person looking for a job opportunity.  Will he tell them to “get out of [his] way” as well?”

The Assemblyman challenged Perez to three debates. The first one to be held on Public Safety and Quality of Life; the Second on business and education; and the third on Youth.

“It is should be important for each candidate to clearly present his views to the voters and undergo some level of scrutiny through public questions,” concluded Gusciora “Otherwise, insisting that anyone should simply ‘get out of the way’ is just bully tactics, and certainly not leadership.”

The Trenton Runoff Election is scheduled for June 12.
