Hamilton Maintains A Class 7 CRS Rating Reducing Flood Insurance Premiums by 15%

HAMILTON, NJ – Hamilton Township continues to maintain a Class 7 rating as a CRS community for the fifth year in a row, allowing residents to save 15 percent on annual flood insurance premiums.

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) rewards communities that go above and beyond the minimum requirements and participate in the Community Rating System. These significant savings of almost $350 a year, are due to the Township’s participation in the Community Rating System (CRS), a program established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help communities reduce flood insurance premiums and promote floodplain management. The reported overall savings for the community continues to accumulate to over $103,000 annually, per a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection representative.

This CRS rating reflects the Township’s commitment to floodplain management and the implementation of practices that exceed the minimum requirements of the NFIP. By maintaining this rating, Hamiltonian residents are still eligible for a 15 percent reduction in their flood insurance premiums. Those living in areas below base flood elevation who do not have a PRP or MRP may also be able to save 5% on insurance premiums.

“We are proud to continue our participation in the Community Rating System and maintain our Class 7 rating,” said Mayor Jeff Martin. “This program not only helps our residents save money on flood insurance, but it also promotes responsible floodplain management and helps to reduce the risk of flood damage to our community.”
