HAMILTON, NJ – Hamilton Township recently received notice from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) that it had been approved for an $8,000 It Pay$ to Plug In: NJ’s Electric Vehicle Charging grant.

NJDEP’s It Pay$ to Plug In provides grants to offset the cost of purchasing electric vehicle charging stations. The program is designed to expand New Jersey’s growing electric vehicle infrastructure network using Volkswagen Clean Air Act Settlement funds.

Hamilton Township will use the grant funding to purchase, install, and maintain a level 2 dual-port charging station in Veteran’s Park South. Veteran’s Park serves as a centralized point of the Township, Mayor Jeff Martin selected this location to allow those looking to charge their electric vehicles and utilize the park’s amenities at the same time.

“I want to express gratitude to the NJDEP and our Legislators in their work to grow the State’s electric vehicle infrastructure,” stated Mayor Jeff Martin. “This is the first step to grow our electric vehicle infrastructure in Hamilton. I hope that residents will find this charging station in Veteran’s Park to be a nice convenience as they are enjoying spending time in the park.”

“It is vital to provide residents with access to local charging stations for their electric vehicles,” said Senator Greenstein. “By providing this charging station, it makes Hamilton Township a leader in paving the way to widespread usage of electric vehicles and ultimately in decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.”

Hamilton Township hopes to have the charging station installed at Veterans Park and ready for use later this year.
