Harris Appointed Chief Counsel for Senate Democratic Majority
TRENTON – Executive Director of the Senate Democrats Tim Lydon today announced the appointment of Abbey True Harris, Esq., as Chief Counsel of the Senate Majority Office.
“I would like to welcome Abbey to the Senate Majority Office as our Chief Counsel,” said Senate President Nick Scutari. “Abbey has decades of diverse legal and public policy experience, enabling her to make an immediate impact. Her private sector experience and legal skills will be an asset to the Senate Majority as we work on behalf of all New Jersey residents.”
Ms. Harris began her legal career in 2005 as a law clerk to New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Virginia A. Long, followed by a nearly decade-long stint in private practice with Fox Rothschild, where she focused on complex appellate litigation, as well as health and regulatory matters. Most recently, Ms. Harris served as Vice President of Legal Affairs and Public Policy for CURE and NJ PURE, spearheading legal and regulatory initiatives and supervising complex state and federal trial and appellate litigation.
In addition, she has worked in various capacities for several federal, state and local government offices, including the US Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, the NJ Governor’s Press Office, and the Mayor of Hamilton Township. Ms. Harris has also served on the Child Placement Review Board as well as Supreme Court and Bar Association committees focusing on women and underserved populations.
“Abbey’s extensive legal career in the private sector and commitment to public service uniquely qualifies her to offer counsel on a range of issues, making her an important addition to this office,” said Lydon. “Abbey has developed a well-deserved reputation for thoughtfully dissecting laws and public policies. I am excited to have her join the Senate Majority staff.”
“I am humbled to join the Senate Majority Office as Chief Counsel, and thank the Senate President for the opportunity to serve in this important position,” said Harris. “I am eager to work with the Executive Director and staff to support the Senate President and Majority members as they advance legislation that will improve the lives of people in my home state.”
Ms. Harris earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and Political Science from Drew University, and her Juris Doctor and Master of Public Policy degrees from the University of Michigan.
