Union City, NJ — Over the past eight months, Hector Oseguera — Congressional Candidate for New Jersey District 08 — has gone from relative unknown to a high profile challenger for 14-year incumbent Albio Sires’ seat in Congress. What got him there? The people.
Knowing he would be outspent and up against the dirty tricks of an entrenched political machine, Oseguera bet on his deep ties to the community he was raised in. Ties that led to a campaign staff and volunteer base of over 100 people. Ties that invited the support of local activist groups like NJ08 For Progress and Progressive Democrats of New Jersey. Ties that can be seen, felt, and heard in the first official campaign video of the Oseguera 2020 campaign: We Run This District.
“This is about a generational change. This is about turning the page on a neoliberal order of ‘Republican-lite’ Democrats who take money from luxury developers, vote to militarize the police, and have no genuine connection to the community and the people they represent,” said Oseguera. “My opponent takes corporate PAC money, I do not. My opponent pals around with war criminals, I do not. My opponent thinks “ICE does great work,” I do not. My opponent only shows up in the community for a photo opportunity and a fancy speech, whereas I spent my entire life surviving in this community.”
