Henry Condemns Rutgers Weakness in Ending Anti-Semitic Protests

Senator Owen Henry (R-12) condemned Rutgers officials for reportedly caving to the demands of the anti-semitic demonstrators as a means of dismantling the encampment on the university’s campus. In an official statement, Rutgers officials stated that final exams were either postponed or moved to a different location as protestors demonstrated at Voorhees Mall this afternoon, adversely impacting more than 1,000 students.

“Rutgers’ reported capitulation to the demands of anti-Semitic demonstrators is unacceptable. By prioritizing the demands of demonstrators that disrupted academic learning by spewing hateful rhetoric they have demonstrated a glaring weakness that hurts the integrity of their institution and the Jewish community,” said Sen. Henry. “I strongly condemn Rutgers for their failure to effectively address the academic disruptions that have occurred on their campus. It is imperative that Rutgers ensure the safety and well-being of all their students by holding students and staff who perpetuated messages of hatred on their campus accountable. I urge the Governor and my colleagues in the Legislature to issue a stronger response to combat the rise of antisemitism and consider ramifications for recipients of public funds who engage in discriminatory behavior on university grounds.”
