Hoboken Watchdog – Good Government Group Launches & Announces First Meeting

Hoboken, NJ – Hoboken Watchdog, a new civic group in the Mile Square City, has recently announced its foundation and first meeting. The inaugural meeting, which local good government advocates are invited to attend, will be held at Willie McBride’s on Monday, February 28 at 7:00pm.

Organizing as a non-profit, the idea for Hoboken Watchdog was discussed by several of its founders a month and half ago but only announced now as they wanted to wait for the BOE referendum to be concluded. The organization has 4 co-chairs spanning the political spectrum, including Cheryl Fallick, Sheila Brennan, Rose Marie Markle, and Joshua Sotomayor Einstein. Fallick and Brennan are former members of the Rent Leveling and Stabilization Board and lifelong Democrats (and the only Hoboken council candidates endorsed by the Hudson County Progressive Democrats in the November 2021 municipal election). Markle, a political independent, is a former Hoboken Board of Education Trustee. Sotomayor Einstein is a past Chairman of the Hudson County Young Republicans and served a 4 year term on the NJ GOP State Committee. Fallick, Brennan, and Sotomayor Einstein were all vocal advocates in the Vote No movement against the $330 million BOE referendum while Markle did not take a public position.

Brennan stated that, “Hoboken Watchdog is for everyone who wants to ensure that Hoboken’s elected officials put our community first, govern out in the open and not behind closed doors, and make every decision with our best interests in mind.  Our aim is to shed light on the workings of government in our mile square in an effort to restore the trust that has been eroded.” She continued, “it’s a truly post-partisan coalition of people who understand we don’t have to agree on every issue in order to advocate for open and transparent local government that is honest with residents.”
