Holly Schepisi: Standing with Chris Christie while
New Jersey Drivers Sat in Bridgegate Traffic
It’s been four years since the scandal known as Bridgegate, when Gov. Chris Christie’s top aides, in an act of political retribution, closed several lanes approaching the George Washington Bridge for more than four days beginning September 9, 2013, causing terrible traffic jams and wreaking havoc for ambulances and other emergency vehicles attempting to travel through Fort Lee.
Since then, those aides have been sentenced to jail, Christie bailed on New Jersey to run a failed campaign for President and Christie has become the most unpopular governor in New Jersey history. Yet through it all, one Christie Loyalist has never wavered in her support: LD 39 Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi.
Schepisi remained loyal to Governor Christie and defended him while serving on the bipartisan committee investigating Bridgegate. She dismissed the idea that a former Port Authority employee had evidence that Christie lied about the Fort Lee lane closures, suggesting David Wildstein was making “a last-ditch effort to get the Port Authority to pay his legal fees.” [The Star-Ledger, Feb 1, 2014]
Schepisi Opposed Expanding the Bridgegate Investigation As New Evidence Came To Light And Abstained From Approving Subpoenas. Despite Schepisi’s abstention, the investigative committee issued 18 subpoenas to learn more about Christie and Wildstein allegedly inspecting the traffic chaos while flying above it in a State Police helicopter. Schepisi And Fellow Republicans Tried To Shift the Bridgegate Investigation Focus Away From Christie, Suggesting the Real Issue Was Reform At The Port Authority. [Legal Monitor Worldwide, Aug 9, 2014]
Schepisi Even Gave Christie Campaign Cash While Investigating Bridgegate. She donated $1,000 to Christie’s Presidential campaign while serving on the joint legislative committee investigating the Bridgegate scandal. [The Star-Ledger, Oct 25, 2015]
