WASHINGTON – On Friday, July 31, 2020, the House passed bipartisan legislation that included U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer’s (NJ-5) provision to increase Congress’ transparency into the country’s Strategic National Stockpile, the domestic supply chain, and the inventory of materials and equipment needed to continue to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

“With the House passing my provision today, we are another step closer to providing critical transparency into the Strategic National Stockpile and our nation’s inventory of resources and equipment needed to fully respond to this pandemic,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “To prepare our country for major crises, Congress must have visibility into the supplies and materials we have available and the state of our domestic supply chain. This level of transparency will ultimately help lower costs, save lives, and make our nation a safer place.”

The provision highlights the need for all Members of Congress to be provided with weekly updates of the Strategic National Stockpile by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.
