WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)  awarded over $18 million in HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) vouchers to 103 Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) in 33 states across the country to support veterans experiencing homelessness. This round of allocations, announced during a press call with HUD Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman and VA Deputy Secretary Donald Remy, will support 2,050 HUD-VASH vouchers nationally, bringing the total number of current HUD-VASH vouchers to 106,704.

In New Jersey, HUD awarded $900,702 to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the Long Branch Housing Authority. Please see the chart with local allocations below.

The HUD-VASH program provides housing and an array of supportive services to veterans experiencing homelessness by combining rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

“The HUD-VA Supportive Housing program (VASH) has been a flagship of HUD and VA’s effort to end veteran homelessness,” said HUD Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman. “Since its inception, VASH has helped tens of thousands of veterans move from homelessness into permanent housing and receive supportive services along the way. With today’s announcement, I am pleased that we are able to bring this proven solution to more veterans experiencing homelessness, particularly during the holiday season.”

“The HUD-VA Supportive Housing program is central to Biden-Harris administration’s evidence-based strategy to prevent and homelessness among Veterans,” said VA Deputy Secretary Donald Remy.  “Beyond making market-rate housing affordable for eligible low-income Veterans, the HUD-VASH program helps them achieve long-term stability by identifying and addressing the root causes of their homelessness to prevent them from experiencing housing crises in the future, honoring our sacred obligation as a nation to ensure every Veteran has a place to call home.”

“Income-eligible Veterans can apply for HUD-VASH housing vouchers and live where they choose,” said Justin Scheid, HUD Newark Field Office Director. “This program offers affordable housing through HUD and access to counseling and services through the VA. Veterans can remain independent and live safely in their homes while recovering from physical and mental health problems, and benefit from the stability that a permanently affordable home can provide.”
