Hudson Chairwoman DeGise Opposes Redistricting Amendment

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Hudson County Democratic Chairwoman Amy DeGise is publicly opposing the Redistricting Amendment being proposed by State Legislative leaders, citing concerns raised across the political and ideological spectrum about the plan’s effects on the state. Chairwoman DeGise joins Hudson County Senators Nicholas Sacco and Brian Stack in opposing the measure, which is scheduled to be voted on this month in Trenton.

“This is an undemocratic amendment that goes against the progressive values of our party,” said Chairwoman DeGise. “The process as it is now has resulted in increased representation for minorities in this legislature and we should be working to increase that representation. I am thankful that Governor Murphy, Senator Sacco and Senator Stack have each taken a public stand against this proposal and I hope my fellow County Chairs and all Democrats can come together to defeat it. If our party stoops to the level of gerrymandering seen in other parts of the country we are no better than the Republicans we rightfully call out for engaging in that disgraceful practice.”
