Hudson County CLC and Middlesex-Somerset County CLC
Launch Labor Walks in Support of Endorsed Primary Candidates

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks the Hudson County and the Middlesex-Somerset County CLCs for their leadership in organizing today’s labor walks in support of their endorsed candidates.

The Hudson County CLC continued its effort to elect Jimmy Davis as Mayor of Bayonne and his Council running mates in the May 10th Municipal Non-Partisan Election, as well as elect Robert Menendez to Congress in the      June 7th primary election.

The Middlesex-Somerset County CLC sought to mobilize Piscataway voters to elect Frank Uhrin in Ward 1, Jim Bullard in Ward 2, Sharon Carmichael in Ward 3, and Michele Lombardi in Ward 4 in the June 7th primary election.

Our political program needs to evolve to meet today’s challenges. That is why we appreciate the 151 union members who participated in today’s walk. Labor walks are a crucial component of our labor movement’s political power, and primary elections are having greater influence on the ultimate outcome of elections than in the past. We need to make sure that the voices of union members are heard at every stage in every election to elect as many pro-worker candidates as possible and level the playing field for working people. The Hudson County CLC and the Middlesex-Somerset County CLC are leading the way by supporting their endorsed candidates earlier than ever before. We encourage all CLCs to join in our combined effort.
