Hudson County Democratic Organization announces endorsed candidates for Primary Election

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Standing together with numerous prominent Hudson County Democratic leaders, HCDO Chairman Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto announced the party’s endorsed candidates for Governor, State Senate, State Assembly, County Clerk and Freeholder at the historic Brennan Courthouse in Jersey City yesterday. Chairman Prieto was joined by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, North Bergen Mayor and State Senator Nick Sacco, Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise and many other local leaders in making the announcement.

“This is a critical year for Democrats in New Jersey as we work to not only take back the Governorship but to stand up to President Trump’s harmful agenda on the state level and right here in Hudson County,” said Chairman Prieto. “Starting with Phil Murphy and continuing to our outstanding state legislators and local officials, I know that we can count on each of these candidates to fight for working families and stand up for the people of Hudson County.”

At the event the party announced its support for the following candidates:

Phil Murphy for Governor

Senator Sandra Cunningham for 31st District Senate

Senator Nicholas Sacco for 32nd District Senate

Senator Brian Stack for 33rd District Senate

Assemblywoman Angela McKnight & Assemblyman Nicholas Chiaravalloti for 31st District Assembly

Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto & Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez for 32nd District Assembly

Assemblyman Raj Mukherji & Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro for 33rd District Assembly

E. Junior Maldonado for County Clerk

Kenneth Kopacz for Freeholder, District 1

William O’Dea for Freeholder, District 2

Anthony Romano for Freeholder, District 5

Tilo Rivas for Freeholder, District 6

Anthony Vainieri for Freeholder, District 8

Chairman Prieto and County Executive DeGise took time at the event to recognize longtime Hudson County Clerk Barbara Netchert, who will not be seeking re-election.

“Barbara Netchert is one of my closest friends and she has done an absolutely exceptional job as County Clerk, modernizing the department and making it more efficient to better serve our residents,” said DeGise. “I wish Barbara the best in retirement and look forward to working with another friend in Junior Maldonado as he takes the mantle of County Clerk next year.”
