Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise Launches New Mobile Unit to Vaccinate Hard to Reach Neighborhoods

Aggressive Vaccination Efforts Have Led to 60% of Hudson Residents 12+ Receiving at Least One Dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, Hudson Regional Health Commission and the Vaccine Task Force are launching a new mobile vaccination unit that will serve as a popup clinic in neighborhoods throughout the county. This new resource will allow the Task Force to bring the COVID-19 vaccine directly to hard to reach communities and host onsite vaccination clinics for local businesses and organizations.The unit is a small passenger bus that has been repurposed and outfitted to administer vaccines in the back half of the vehicle.

“After a long and difficult 15 months, we are finally turning the corner and getting closer everyday to ending this pandemic,” said Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. “But we need to make it abundantly clear that the progress we have made is the direct result of our aggressive vaccination efforts. Hudson Regional Health Commission has done a tremendous job getting this life saving vaccine into the arms of our residents and we are all eager to begin using our new mobile unit to build on the progress we have already made.”

Because of the County’s coordination with its municipal partners, 60% of residents over the age of 12 have now received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The latest data, released by the State of New Jersey late last week, is reflective of vaccines administered through May 25.

“In the past two weeks alone, Hudson County has seen a steady increase in residents choosing to be vaccinated,” said Carrie Nawrocki, Executive Director of Hudson Regional Health Commission. “For us to put the pandemic behind us though, we need everyone to trust the science and understand these vaccines are safe and effective. Hudson Regional Health Commission remains committed to making vaccines easily accessible in every neighborhood of Hudson County and we are looking forward to our newest mobile vaccination initiatives.”

The county-run vaccination site at the USS Juneau Center continues to operate on a modified schedule with appointments available to accommodate students and individuals in need of an evening time slot. This week, the Hudson County Vaccine Task Force will offer vaccination opportunities at the following locations and times:

• Wednesday, June 2 at the USS Juneau Center: The Moderna vaccine is available between 9:15 a.m. and noon. Pfizer will be available from 3:15 to 6:00 p.m.

• Thursday, June 3 at Braddock Park in North Bergen: The mobile vaccination unit will return to Braddock park from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The team will be administering second doses of Moderna from the mobile clinic on May 6 while also offering residents the opportunity to begin the vaccination process with either the Moderna or Johnson and Johnson vaccine. This will be the mobile unit’s inaugural use.

• Friday, June 4 at the USS Juneau Center: The Moderna vaccine is available between 9:15 a.m. and noon.

Anyone who lives, works or studies in Hudson County is eligible to be vaccinated at the USS Juneau Center or at any of the mobile clinics. Appointments are not required, but can be scheduled online by visiting hudsoncovidvax.org.

About the Hudson County Vaccine Distribution Center: The Hudson County Vaccine Distribution Center is operated by Hudson Regional Health Commission and overseen by County Executive Tom DeGise’s Vaccine Task Force, which includes representatives from the Hudson County Improvement Authority, the Hudson County Office of Emergency Management, County Department of Roads and Public Property, the Hudson County Schools of Technology and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office.
