Hudson County Latino Foundation & NJCU Center for Community Engagement Host a Financial Literacy Course

JERSEY CITY, NJ, January 31 — The Hudson County Latino Foundation in collaboration with
the New Jersey City University, Center for Community Engagement, hosted it’s second session
of the Foundation’s Basic Financial Literacy Course on the University campus in Jersey.

Since 2017, the Foundation has successfully conducted over courses throughout Jersey City to
dozens of students. Using a carefully crafted curriculum which is tailored to each specific class,
Certified Financial Educations Instructors deliver the material to the students. As a member of
the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Money Smart Alliance, this no-cost, 16-week
course follows strict guidelines established by the agency as no products or services are offered.
“My daughter saw this online and told me I should sign up … so I did” – said a student last night.
This is a perfect example of how the Foundation is able to engage not only millennials but also
the middle-aged population. Class demographics are also interesting to note, with over 70
percent of the class being filled by women and the number one topic people wanted more
information on was “learning to invest”. While the U.S. economy is doing well, the number one
fear people had was not saving enough for the future.

The course is taught every Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Gilligan Student Union
Building (GSUB), Room 216 and people must pre-register on Eventbrite.

The Hudson County Latino Foundation is a 501c(3) nonprofit operating regionally in
Hudson County. The Foundation’s mission is to deliver Financial Literacy, raise healthcare awareness and engage in sustainable community development activities to
benefit the residents of Hudson County.
