HUDSON COUNTY REPUBLICANS LAUD DEFEAT OF HOBOKEN HS REFERENDUM, PRAISE HOBOKEN GOP FOR THEIR SUCCESS

Hoboken-In a display of what is right with our system, a high turnout of Hoboken voters overwhelmingly rejected a tax and spend boondoggle in the dead of winter. A broad coalition realized that spending $250 million on a new high school was simply not in the interest of education or fiscal health for the City. A leading member of the successful group was the renewed Hoboken Republican Party led by Chairman Joseph Branco and augmented by Young Republican Chair Pavel Sokolov.

“I am so proud of the new Republican leadership in Hoboken for seizing upon a huge opportunity to promote quality education and fiscal sanity. Listen, the Hudson County GOP prioritizes good schools and we know upgrades do need to be made. But to spend hundreds of millions to build a new high school in these times makes no sense and was the ultimate payoff to special interests. Let’s start using more common sense with our dollars and cents,” said Hudson County GOP Chair Jose Arango.

Arango also praised 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher and 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos for their opposition. “I know we in Republican leadership are doing our job when Hudson County Democrats agree with us to say no to higher taxes and wasteful spending.”

“We are proud of how our community rallied together to stand up for our rights and for our children’s education. Residents of all political backgrounds spoke out in one United voice and sent a message that our votes will not be taken for granted. Now we look forward to healing the divide in our community and working together to craft a bond proposal that respects the entire community,” stated Hudson County Young Republican Chair and Hoboken Republican Secretary Pavel Sokolov.

“It was a team effort, across party lines to stand with our seniors, homeowners and renters, to protect them from being priced out of Hoboken. We want to work with the current administration to make sure all stakeholder concerns before we proceed with any large investment that will impact us all,” concluded Hoboken Republican Chairman Joseph Branco.
