Hudson County Schools of Technology Alumnus, Dina Grilo, Sworn in As First Female Mayor of East Newark

EAST NEWARK, N.J. — Dina Grilo, a 1989 graduate of Hudson County Schools of Technology (than known as Hudson County Area Vocational Technology Schools), was sworn in as the first female mayor of East Newark on Friday afternoon. Grilo, a lifelong resident of the West Hudson Borough, studied Performing Arts and Drama.

“Since its inception, the Hudson County Schools of Technology has strived to provide students with an unparalleled education while fostering technical and leadership skills,” said Superintendent Amy Lin-Rodriguez. “Mayor Grilo has demonstrated all of these qualities in both her personal and professional careers. Our entire district is proud of all Mayor Grilo has already accomplished and wish her continued success in her first term in office.”

Mayor Grilo was administered her oath of office by State Senator and North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco at the East Newark Senior Center. She was joined by First Lady Tammy Murphy, Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez, Assemblyman Pedro Mejia,  members of the Hudson County School of Technology community and other local elected officials.

“Seeing our current and former students achieve success in any area of life is always one of the most rewarding feelings for anyone who works or volunteers their time in education,” said Board President Craig Guy. “Mayor Grilo is an incredibly hard working woman with a passion for serving her community and we all look forward to watching her do great things for the residents of East Newark.”
