HUDSON REPUBLICANS CELEBRATE GERRYMANDERING PLAN DEFEAT
Jersey City-Hudson County Republicans are pleased that the Democratic legislative leadership was forced to walk away from their greedy power grab like a dog with a tail between their legs. Hopefully this will allow New Jersey to finally get a legislature that reflects their voting habits.
“Luckily New Jersey can now avoid the Christmas lump of coal that this plan would have been. We all know that Republicans have been ripped off from the seats their votes deserve for almost 20 years and this would have made it worse. I am very glad Chairman Steinhardt, Senator Kean and Assemblyman Bramnick lead the charge to stop this. Now in 2021 we need a map that will lead to a more effective and representative Assembly and Senate.” Said Hudson GOP Chair Jose Arango.
Arango also praised principled opposition from across the aisle, including our own Hudson Senators Stack and Sacco. “The fact that they couldn’t convince leaders in their own party to go along shows how out of touch the Democratic legislative leadership is. I am glad people on all sides stood up for what is right. As I always say, good policy is good politics. If this plan re-emerges in 2019, I hope to see more Republican county chairs join me in a chorus of public opposition.” Arango concluded.
