“Huge Success”: Jersey City’s On-Demand Bus Service Reaps Record Breaking Results
Mayor Fulop and Via CEO Officially Launch Via, NJ’s 1st City-Run Bus System; Closing Transit Gaps and Opening Countless Opportunities for Residents with Increased Connectivity Citywide
WHAT: Mayor Steve M. Fulop will join Via CEO, Daniel Ramot, to release ridership results and make the Via vehicles available to the media for the first time since the roll out of the New Jersey’s first municipally-run, on-demand transportation system.
The first-of-its-kind bus system in New Jersey, the purple vans have made a colorful impact on travelers’ efforts to seamlessly navigate the city in areas abandoned by state-run NJ Transit bus lines. The on-demand service enhances existing transit services by increasing connectivity neighborhoods, business sectors, government facilities and mass transit service locations.
By pairing riders from across the city with similar destination points by the use of a cellphone, costs are kept down to a very affordable $2 per ride. During its premier, rides are reduced to $1.
