HUGIN: NEW JERSEY TO WASHINGTON: NOT ON OUR BACKS

NEW JERSEY TO WASHINGTON: NOT ON OUR BACKS

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — Today, U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin, joined by more than 10 local business owners and residents, hosted a roundtable at a business that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy.  The group met in response to the Administration’s rescissions package proposing $15 billion in cuts to federal funding, including $7 billion from the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and $107 million from funding for Hurricane Sandy relief.

“I oppose any efforts that will unfairly hurt New Jerseyans, including the Administration’s rescissions proposal to cut $7 billion from the Children’s Health Insurance Program and $107 million from funding for Hurricane Sandy relief. New Jersey is already dead last in the investment we get back from Washington, and there are plenty of areas Congress can save taxpayer money instead of on the backs of children and Superstorm Sandy victims,” said Hugin. “In 2016 alone, the Federal government made $144 billion in improper payments. Clearly there are areas where Congress could refocus its efforts to save taxpayer money.”

Hugin was joined by Mayor Anthony Vaz of Seaside Heights, Councilwoman Gail Coleman of Seaside Park, and Councilman Matt DeMichele of Seaside Park. Local business owners Steve Whalen of Lucky Leo’s Arcade, Paul Schneider of Berkeley Sweet Shop, Lou Cirigiliano of Casino Pier, Jeff Jackson of Jimbo’s Restaurant and Bar, Bill Wutzer of Midway Steak House, Greg Kohr of Kohr’s Ice Cream, and Steve DeMaio of Bubba’s Doghouse Restaurant were also in attendance.

“Small businesses are the backbone of the New Jersey economy, and we need fighters in Washington that understand how to create an environment where small businesses can thrive. Today’s discussion was an important one and I’m confident that Bob Hugin’s experience as a job creator will serve New Jersey’s small businesses well in Washington,” said Wayne Cimorelli, owner of Spicy’s Cantina.

Congressman Tom MacArthur who represents the area issued the following statement:

“I support efforts to rein in government spending and agree that we need to be fiscally responsible, but I oppose efforts to cut spending on the backs of Superstorm Sandy victims and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Bob Hugin is right to call attention to this important issue and I’m confident that he will be a strong, independent voice for the people of New Jersey in the United States Senate.”

Bob Hugin, a Marine Corps Veteran and business leader who has created thousands of New Jersey jobs, is seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate to challenge incumbent Democrat Senator Bob Menendez.
