Hugin: Reuters Reports Millennials Fed Up with Democrats

Reuters Reports Millennials Fed Up with Democrats
Millennials Say Republican Party Better Steward of the Economy

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — A new Reuters poll released today finds that millennials are fed up with Democrats and that they think Republicans are better stewards of the economy. New Jersey has the highest rate of out migration of millennials in the country and theworst business climate in the country.

“It’s no surprise that millennials are voting with their feet and moving out of states like New Jersey where politicians like Governor Phil Murphy and Senator Bob Menendez, who has voted over 90 times to raise taxes, continue to push tax hikes that make New Jersey increasingly unaffordable,” said U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin. “Murphy and Menendez’s plans to raise taxes on the lower- and middle-class, businesses, seniors, and families are not only exporting jobs and businesses right out of New Jersey, but are also driving millennials—our future entrepreneurs and job creators—out of our state at the fastest rate in the country.

“As a business leader who spent the last twenty years creating thousands of high skill jobs in New Jersey, I know what it takes to create and keep jobs here. Instead of doubling down on failed policies that have made New Jersey unaffordable and the worst place in the country to do business, we need tax policies that encourage job creation and business formation.”

Background:

  • Between 2007 and 2016, NJ had the highest rate of Millennial out migration in the country—with a loss of almost 200,000 Millennials.
  • When asked in a survey, Millennials said the things that they need in order to be able to stay in NJ are—lower taxes, more businesses and jobs, affordable housing, cheaper tuition and improved mass transit.
  • Out-migration from NJ not only hurts our tax base, it hurts our ability to meet the needs of an advancing economy.  We are losing our most technologically savvy workforce.  Millennials are seen as the future of NJ’s workforce and will ultimately be the drivers of the State economy.
  • The survey of more than 16,000 registered voters ages 18 to 34 shows their support for Democrats over Republicans for Congress slipped by about 9 percentage points over the past two years, to 46 percent overall.
  • The poll found that millennials increasingly say the Republican Party is a better steward of the economy.

Bob Hugin, a Marine Corps Veteran and business leader who has created thousands of New Jersey jobs, is seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate to challenge incumbent Democrat Senator Bob Menendez.
