Hunterdon To Hold Drive Thru Covid Test Kit Distribution January 22nd; Snow Date For Test Kits January 23rd

Hunterdon County residents will be able to receive two free Covid-19 PCR test kits via a drive thru
distribution by the County Health Department starting at 9 am on Saturday, January 22nd, at the
County complex on Route 12 in Raritan Township, weather permitting, with a snow date of Sunday
January 23rd, County Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren announced at the Commissioner Board’s
January 18th meeting.

Van Doren, the Board’s liaison for the Health Department, stated, “To expedite increased covid-19
testing opportunities for residents, and to minimize personal contact, those desiring test kits will be
directed to drive through the county haz-mat building at the Route 12 complex, the same drive
through that was used for vaccinations, and will be asked to pop open their trunk where kits will be
placed.

The state has provided a limited number of test kits, so kits will be distributed two to a vehicle. It is
anticipated that the state’s supply of test kits will not be sufficient for the demand by residents. It is,
at the moment, the only resources that are available.

The Health Department anticipates additional test kits to be forthcoming from the state in the coming
weeks.”

Van Doren pointed out, “I want to stress these are PCR test kits that must be mailed in by users. The
turnaround time is 48 to 72 hours and we are advised the labs performing the tests are being
inundated, so sometimes it takes longer to receive a return.

Test users will be notified via email as to a positive or negative test.

In the event of a bad snowstorm, the distribution will take place on Sunday, January 23rd at the same
location at 9 am. Residents should watch Facebook and the county website for updates.”

Board Director John E. Lanza had called for gaining more covid-19 tests for county residents during
his remarks at the January 4th Board Re-organization meeting.
