Immigrant Families March from Passaic to Bergen, Call for NJ Legislators to Expand Access for Drivers’ Licenses in NJ
As time runs out in the state legislature’s lame duck session, Immigrant families call for NJ legislators to pass legislation to expand access to driver’s licenses for all in New Jersey – regardless of immigration status.
Passaic, NJ (Sunday, November 24) – On Sunday, immigrant families are calling to expanding access for drivers licenses in New Jersey. After years of fighting, it’s time for the state legislature to pass drivers licenses for all qualified drivers, regardless of immigration status. For too many winters, families have had to walk through the snow to wait for the bus, pick up their children from school, and go to doctor’s appointments.
This summer, New York became the 14th state to pass driver’s license for all. Connecticut and thirteen other states have also taken this step. New Jersey is stuck behind, despite the fact that the state’s economy will generate $90 million and more than a half million potential drivers will have the opportunity to become licensed and insured.
Legislation to expand access to drivers licenses is currently pending in the state Senate and Assembly.
