Inroads To Opportunities Pleased To Partner With Union County Prosecutor’s Office On Law Enforcement’s Interaction With Individuals With Disabilities

Roselle, NJ – Inroads to Opportunities is thrilled to partner with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office on their new initiative highlighting law enforcement’s interaction with individuals with disabilities.

Inroads was part of the distinguished panel at KEAN University which included representatives from various service providers, community stakeholders and members of Union County law enforcement. Union County Prosecutor William Daniel and Director Debbie Ann Anderson of the Union County Department of Human Services were also in attendance.

The event, “Growing Together in Union County: Alternative Responses for an Inclusive Community” included panel discussions highlighting existing organizations and programs improving interactions between law enforcement and individuals with developmental, intellectual and physical disabilities, as well as mental health needs. The discussion also included a call to action and the need for collaboration between law enforcement, human service professionals and community partners to ensure that all Union county residents are treated with dignity and respect.

Angela Calzone, Inroads President/CEO spoke to the importance this initiative and its implications for individuals with disabilities. “As an agency that directly serves individuals with disabilities, Inroads seeks to continue this important conversation of inclusiveness for all members of society.”

ABOUT INROADS TO OPPORTUNITIES:

Since 1959, the Occupational Center of Union County, DBA Inroads to Opportunities, has been providing programs and services to over 400 individuals with various types of disabilities and ranging in age from 16 through retirement, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. Programs and services include vocational preparation, transition from school to work, certificate training programs, day habilitation, and mental health services.

Celebrating its 65th year, Inroads to Opportunities is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an approved provider of the NJ Department of Labor, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and Commission of the Blind and Visually Impaired. Inroads is licensed by the State of New Jersey Department of Human Services, NJ Division of Mental Health, and Addiction Services to provide partial care and the Division of Developmental Disabilities to provide Day Habilitation, Pre-Vocational and Transportation Services. Inroads is an approved Medicaid provider and an approved Employment Network under the Ticket to Work Social Security initiative and an approved Benefits Planning and Counseling Service through the NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
