International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 Endorses

Mayor Ras Baraka for Re-Election

SPRINGFIELD, NJ (April 24, 2018): Today, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 endorsed incumbent Ras Baraka for Mayor of Newark.

“Mayor Baraka’s tenure has been marked by resurgence, strong growth, economic opportunity and new, vibrant development,” said Greg Lalevee, Business Manager of IUOE 825. “We wholeheartedly support Mayor Baraka’s bid for reelection and believe that Newark could not be in better hands.”

Newark’s location and important transit infrastructure, along with the extensive needs of the city’s water system, will also require the mayor’s attention, and IUOE 825 believes nobody is better suited for the job than Mayor Baraka, who has made strides on improving both.

“Mayor Baraka’s emphasis on responsible development, sustainability, infrastructure improvement and revitalization is a critical catalyst for Newark’s success,” said Lalevee. “He has a strong record of job creation and growth. As the largest city in New Jersey, Newark can set the tone for responsible development, construction and infrastructure that benefits all residents and makes the city and our state a better place to live and work.”

Headquarter in Springfield, NJ, the International Union Operating Engineers Local 825 represents nearly 7,000 operating engineers throughout New Jersey and five counties of lower New York: Rockland, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan and Delaware.
