International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 Endorses Governor Phil Murphy for Re-election

SPRINGFIELD, NJ (October 21, 2021): The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 825 today announced their endorsement of Governor Phil Murphy for re-election.

IUOE Local 825 praised Governor Murphy’s nation-leading efforts to combat misclassification, create good-paying union jobs, defend collective bargaining rights, and invest in the clean energy and transportation infrastructure of the future. Governor Murphy has supported Local 825’s investments in advanced training programs to ensure members are prepared for current and future infrastructure projects.

“The Operating Engineers endorse the re-election of Phil Murphy as our Governor,” said Greg Lalevee, Business Manager of Operating Engineers Local 825. “The Governor has put his shoulder behind transformative infrastructure projects. Constructing the Portal Bridge along with refurbishing assets such as Newark Penn Station and the Walter Rand Transportation Center will once again make New Jersey best in class in mass transit. Constructing the New Jersey Wind Port positions our state to be the logistics hub of the emerging off shore wind industry. Our members look forward to the good paying construction jobs these projects will provide.”

“From investing in new roads, bridges, and rail stations that will modernize our infrastructure to combating misclassification, we’re ensuring that union hands play a vital role in shaping New Jersey’s future,” said Governor Murphy. “Our commitment to the hardworking men and women of the labor movement in New Jersey will remain just as strong as its proud history. It is an honor to receive the IUOE’s endorsement.”

IUOE Local 825 represents more than 8,200 men and women throughout New Jersey and five counties in New York’s Hudson Valley, who operate heavy equipment such as cranes, backhoes, forklifts, graders, bulldozers, and excavators, among others. These machines excavate, build, move mountains, pave highways, and lift tons of steel and building materials with precision.
