James Solomon Raises Over $200,000 In Campaign For Jersey City Mayor

Jersey City, NJ –  James Solomon announced today that the campaign has raised over $200,000 from nearly 800 donors in support of his campaign for mayor of Jersey City. Unlike all of his opponents, Solomon is not taking any money from Jersey City developers as he has done in his previous races. The successful quarter builds on the strong grassroots energy from his launch event, which drew hundreds of people. More than half of the funds raised came in just 11 days following the announcement. Solomon’s numbers reveal a strong base of support from Jersey City residents. In the third quarter, he raised $112,000 from nearly 600 individual voters in the city.

Solomon campaign manager Stuart Thomas said: “Jersey City is ready for change and the strong support we’ve seen since our massive launch event only confirms that. James is running to bring new leadership to Jersey City, and people are hungry for a Mayor who is looking to the future and has a plan to make their lives better. This campaign is only picking up more and more momentum as James goes neighborhood by neighborhood and block to block talking to voters about his vision for Jersey City.”

Since entering the City Council in 2018, James has made creating a livable, safe, and prosperous Jersey City the cornerstone of his work. Those accomplishments include:

  • A Right to Counsel for all Jersey City Residents: Solomon was the primary sponsor of the legislation. When fully implemented, it will serve an estimated 1,500 tenants per year. The legislation will provide legal counsel to low-to-moderate-income tenants facing eviction in Jersey City.

  • Protected Liberty State Park: Successfully partnered with grassroots activists to defeat Paul Fireman’s plans to build three holes of a golf course on Jersey City’s most pristine natural area.

  • Ending Tax Abatements For Luxury Developments Because Big Developers Don’t Need More Giveaways: During James’ seven years on the council, not a single abatement has been given to a developer to build a luxury housing project.

  • Fighting Corruption And Maintaining Independence From The Corrupt Hudson County Machine: Throughout his time, James has maintained his independence from the corrupt Hudson County machine. He joined the lawsuit with Rep. Andy Kim, which ended NJ’s unconstitutional ballot design called “the line.” Ending the practice is crucial to level the playing field and ensure NJ voters pick their representatives, not unelected bosses.

  • Stood Up for Small Businesses by Ending Corporate Price Gouging: James authored and passed a bill restricting major delivery apps from overcharging customers and restaurants. The bill also offers more protections for delivery workers and business owners.
