JCEA PAC ENDORSES DEGISE, LYONS AND RICHARDSON FOR THREE YEAR TERMS AND ALI FOR THE ONE YEAR UNEXPIRED TERM FOR BOARD OF EDUCATION

JERSEY CITY, NJ August 21– Mike Greco, Chairperson of the Jersey City Education Association’s Political Action Committee, announced today that the JCEA PAC has endorsed candidates Amy DeGise, Gerald Lyons, Lorenzo Richardson and Mussab Ali for the 2017 Jersey City Board of Education election.

“On behalf of the over 4,000 Jersey City Public School educators and school support staff, I am eager to announce our steadfast support of DeGise, Lyons, Richardson and Ali” said JCEA President, Ronald Greco.  “These candidates have demonstrated the qualities we feel are integral for a productive and successful school board. Amy, Gerald and Lorenzo are unparalleled in their levels of experience and expertise when it comes to advocating for the students, parents and staff while being ever-mindful of their responsibility to Jersey City taxpayers. Their stewardship, along with the other members of the school board, has played a key role in bringing the district to the brink of local control after nearly three decades of state oversight.”

“Additionally, Mussab has clearly exhibited he possesses the leadership skills and intellectual understanding to be a welcome addition to the board. As a product of the Jersey City Public Schools himself, and having been recently recognized as an esteemed Truman Scholar, in part due to his activism on such issues as youth homelessness, urban education and criminal justice reform, Mussab will bring a welcome voice and perspective for the students of Jersey City.”

“Amy, Gerald, Lorenzo and Mussab are community-minded individuals with both short and long-term goals of making the Jersey City Public Schools a model district for the nation. In an atmosphere of increased educational profiteering and decreased school funding, we need board members who can work in a cooperative and cohesive manner. The members of the JCEA will be with them every step of the way and will offer every available resource throughout the campaign,” Greco said of the union’s support for DeGise, Lyons, Richardson and Ali.

“Through their experience and actions these candidates have proven to us that they have the integrity, the vision and the will to be the next Jersey City Public School Board Members – and we want to help them achieve that goal.” Greco said.
