JERSEY 1ST AND AFP: MURPHY CONTINUES ANOTHER YEAR OF GROWING THE GARDEN STATE’S UNAFFORDABILITY
Jersey 1st and Americans for Prosperity (AFP) issued the following statements on Governor Murphy’s State of the State address today:
Jersey 1st President and Founder Rosemary Becchi:
“After seven years in office, Governor Murphy has failed to make our state more affordable or livable for struggling New Jersey taxpayers and families. In fact, he’s left the Garden State worse than he found it.
Every year since taking office, his Administration has increased spending to record levels and raised taxes, while failing to address the major issues that plague our state, such as rising property taxes and the Garden State’s exorbitant cost of living.
As a result of these historic spending sprees, our state is facing a $4.5 billion budget deficit — meaning New Jersey taxpayers will most likely pay more once again.
Instead of proposing more progressive spending programs to benefit the few, the Governor and Legislature should focus on lowering our highest-in-the-nation tax burden, getting our budget under control, and removing regulations and red tape so EVERYONE can succeed.
And instead of proposing more costly electrification mandates in the Energy Master Plan, the Legislature should look at all sources of energy generation to increase competition and reduce costs for New Jerseyans.
New Jersey families and taxpayers deserve better than another year of Governor Murphy’s failed tax and spend policies.”
AFP Regional State Director Ross Connolly:
“New Jerseyans are already burdened with high taxes, including the highest corporate transit tax in the nation, and cannot afford an agenda that hinders economic opportunity any further. Governor Murphy’s radical policies have and will continue to burden hardworking New Jerseyans with high costs and government regulations that hurt small businesses, families, and taxpayers.
“It doesn’t have to be this way. States across the country are implementing pro-growth policies that lower taxes & regulatory barriers and deliver for their residents, and New Jersey can do the same. AFP and Jersey 1st will continue to leverage our grassroots capabilities and urge New Jersey lawmakers to support commonsense policies that achieve prosperity and make our state the best place to live out the American dream.”
