JERSEY CITY COUNCILMAN JERMAINE ROBINSON PUSHING FOR 10-STORY PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING ON MLK DRIVE
SEPTEMBER 5, 2019 (JERSEY CITY, NJ) –Staying true to his commitment to revitalize the south side of Jersey City, Councilman Jermaine Robinson is rallying in favor of a 10-story office building to be erected in the heart of Martin Luther King Drive. The item is up for a vote on September 11 at the Jersey City Council meeting.
“This project has the potential to bring hundreds of patrons to an area that is in need of business development and foot traffic. This office building will provide necessary services as well as continued community reinvestment to Ward F,” says Councilman Robinson.
The proposed public safety building will house the administrative personnel for the Department of Public Safety including the Police Chief’s office, the Fire Chief’s office, 911 Emergency Services, Parking Enforcement, and Fire Prevention. The office building is projected to house 200 to 300 employees in a 10-story building at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Orient Avenue. The current public safety offices are housed in separate buildings in Journal Square and downtown Jersey City.
“We don’t want a tale of two cities in Jersey City any longer. We need to have economic development throughout the city, especially in Ward F where I represent. Moving city offices out of downtown and to Martin Luther King Drive is a great step toward spreading the wealth,” says Councilman Robinson.
Councilman Robinson has gained community input from several organizations including the Jersey City NAACP and the Jackson Hill Main Street Management Corporation. Councilman Robinson will meet with the Jackson Green Homes Block Association on Friday, September 6 at 6:30 pm at Tabernacle Temple at 18 Orient Avenue, Jersey City NJ.
