Jersey City Redevelopment Will Include New Homeless Shelter, Affordable Housing & Rehabilitation of Historic St. Lucy’s Church
What: Mayor Steven M. Fulop, alongside the Jersey City Department of Housing, Economic Development & Commerce and Jersey City Redevelopment Agency, will seek the creation of a new homeless shelter, additional affordable housing units and the rehabilitation of the historic St. Lucy’s Roman Catholic Complex.
A proposal for the new homeless shelter would include a minimum of 150 beds, which is almost double the capacity of the current shelter, for both men and women. Additionally, the proposal includes transitional housing units, supportive housing units and additional administrative facilities that will provide social and supportive services for those in need. Portions of the St. Lucy’s Roman Catholic Complex will be rehabilitated to preserve key historic features.
