Jim Johnson Joins Clarke For Senate Team as Campaign Chairman

Jefferson Twp., NJ:   26th Legislative District State Senate candidate Christine Clarke is proud to welcome Jim Johnson to her team as the Campaign Chairman.

Johnson has a long and distinguished record of service in and out of public office.  He recently led the nation’s largest municipal law department as Corporation Counsel of New York City and was a critical advisor to the Mayor during the worst of the pandemic.  Governor Murphy asked him to lead the effort to revitalize Atlantic City and restore it to local control as Special Counsel to the Governor.  His work there is still bearing fruit in the expansion of hospital facilities, the expected arrival of a new supermarket to address food insecurity and new programs for youth.

Decades ago, he served as Under Secretary of the Treasury leading the ATF, the Customs Service and the US Secret Service where he also served as co-chair of the National Church Arson Task Force alongside former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.  As a citizen volunteer, he chaired the board at the Brennan Center for Justice, co-founded the non-profit group New Jersey Communities Forward and served for seven years as the federal affordable housing monitor in Westchester County, NY.

“Christine Clarke brings brains, insight and energy to all that she does,” said Johnson. “She will work to protect the environment, for all of us. She will stand up for families in the Senate just as she is a model for parents fighting for the best for their kids. She loves her community. Indeed, that love is both a reason for the campaign and its fuel. Christine Clarke will be a Senator for all of us. I feel tremendously honored to have been asked to chair her campaign.”

“I am delighted to welcome Jim to the team,” said Clarke. “His advice and friendship in recent years has been invaluable. Our conversations about policy-driven activism and community-centered leadership have improved much of what I do in this race as a candidate and in my private life as a volunteer. Our campaign is excited to have his guidance, expertise and leadership as we work toward the win in November.”

“From day one, our campaign has been focused on prioritizing real solutions for our communities over partisan talking points,” said Benjamin Weisman, Campaign Manager. “Jim has proven throughout his career how much can be accomplished through building meaningful coalitions, listening to the community, and advocating for real and lasting change. We are honored to have him on this journey with us.”

Clarke is an environmental advocate, a grassroots organizer and a mother-of-four running to build the clean energy economy, improve healthcare and lower costs, protect clean air and water, and lead with empathy and fiscal sense. Learn more about her at ClarkeForSenate.com.
