Johnson Statement on Passage of

Legislative Democrats’ FY2020 State Budget

(TRENTON) – Responding to the Assembly’s passage of the Democratic Legislature’s Fiscal Year 2020 State Budget plan, which prioritizes tax relief and protects the most vulnerable New Jerseyans, Assembly Speaker Pro Temp Gordon Johnson (D-Bergen) released the following statement:

“New Jersey has long struggled with the highest-in-the-nation property taxes on average. The budget we have passed as a Legislature today includes almost $175 million in property tax relief.

“Our plan fully funds the Senior Freeze program for the first time in a decade and doubles the veterans’ income tax deduction which will provide an additional $23 million in tax relief to positively impact an estimated 387,000 veterans in New Jersey.

“I am proud of the efforts put into crafting this budget which does not include a millionaire’s tax and is not dependent on one-shot gimmicks or diversions. I hope the Governor gives our plan the serious consideration it deserves.”
