Juneteenth March & Rally for Reparations, Justice & Democracy to be Held in Newark on June 17

Speakers Include Sen. Cory Booker, Other Elected Officials

NEWARK – On June 17 at 12 p.m., the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, People’s Organization for Progress, over 50 other partners and diverse advocates from around the state will gather in Newark to celebrate Juneteenth and call for a Reparations Task Force, youth justice reform, same-day voter registration and police accountability in New Jersey. This will be the second Juneteenth recognized by New Jersey as a state holiday.

The flyer for the event can be found here and below.

The event will feature a wide array of speakers, including Senator Cory Booker; other federal, state and local elected officials; and racial/social justice and multi-faith leaders from across the state. A speaker list can be found below.

“While we rightly celebrate the liberation of enslaved people on Juneteenth, we must also double down on our commitment to create an equitable and just America – and New Jersey – where Black people are truly free and not restricted by the shackles of structural racism,” said Ryan Haygood, President & CEO of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice.
