JVP: NJ library to decide on censorship of children’s book
NJ library to decide on censorship of children’s book
Highland Park, NJ (June 3, 2019) — The New Jersey chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace invites the media to attend the Special Meeting of the Highland Park Public Library Board of Trustees, where the library will decide if a reading of the children’s book “P is for Palestine” will be rescheduled. After a slanderous intimidation campaign, Highland Park Public Library canceled a planned reading of “P is for Palestine” in May. But Highland Park should know better: Censorship is never a good look for a library.
JVP-Central New Jersey members will attend the meeting and petition to speak in defense of the children’s book “P is for Palestine” and in opposition to the intimidation and misinformation campaign which led to the censoring of the book.
Marion Munk, JVP member and longtime local resident: “As a proud, Yiddish-speaking Jew, I was brought up to believe in social justice for all people – and defending Palestinian rights, and the right for Palestinian stories to be told, is an integral part of my Jewish beliefs. It was wrong for Highland Park Library to censor stories about Palestine, and the ACLU-NJ agrees: Censorship is never a good look for a library!”
