Following a security briefing Wednesday on unexplained drone activity over New Jersey, Assemblyman Paul Kanitra voiced serious concerns about the lack of clear information and action from authorities. He shared his frustrations during a live interview with Steve Doocy on Fox & Friends Thursday morning.
“We went in looking for answers. We were disappointed that the governor wasn’t there,” Kanitra said. “If anything could bring Republicans and Democrats together at this time, it was the anger at how little information we got and how apparent it became coming out of there at how vulnerable we are as a country.”
Kanitra expressed frustrations with authorities saying the drones pose no threat. Gov. Phil Murphy said Wednesday that he is not aware of public safety risks based on everything he knows, despite admitting there are no answers from the federal government.
“It’s so cutesy the way there positioning it. They keep trying to diminish the situation but, no known credible threat might as well mean no known guarantee of safety,” he warned.
He also described the drones as “far from hobbyist toys,” noting that state police aircraft observed drones at least six feet in size flying in swarms of 50. Despite deploying sophisticated detection equipment, authorities have been unable to identify the drones’ origin or operators.
Kanitra urged federal authorities to escalate the response, emphasizing the risk to critical infrastructure in his district, which includes National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt and U.S. Coast Guard station in Point Pleasant Beach along 25 miles of coastline.
“I have 25 miles of coastline in my district. We could safely bring this down over a non-populated area and get our hands on one.”
