Katie Brennan: Canceling Congestion Pricing is a Direct Attack on Public Transit and States’ Rights

Jersey City — Today, the Trump administration announced it was terminating the federal government’s approval of congestion pricing in New York City. In response to the announcement by the U.S. Department of Transportation, New Jersey Assembly candidate Katie Brennan releases the following statement:

“So much for states’ rights. This decision is a direct attack on public transit that will hurt commuters across the region and on both sides of the Hudson.

“We’ve seen firsthand that congestion pricing works at reducing traffic in Jersey City and Hoboken, making our streets safer and our air cleaner. It also cuts commute times for bus riders and drivers, all while funding a subway system that millions of New Jersey residents rely on to get to work and wherever else they need to go.

“In the most densely populated region in the country, we should be doing everything we can to invest in mass transit. Instead, this shortsighted decision puts politics ahead of the daily needs of millions of commuters across the region.”
