Katie Brennan Condemns ICE Raids, Calls for Immediate Action to Protect Immigrant Communities

Jersey City — In response to federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raiding a Newark business earlier this week, and reports of ICE activity in Jersey City this weekend, Assembly candidate Katie Brennan releases the following statement:

“The workplace raids conducted by ICE are a horrific abuse of power that violate the Constitution. That a warrantless raid, and the detention of a veteran, could happen in our state is appalling, and it should serve as a wakeup call for legislators to take immediate action.

“Now is the time to come together as a state and show the Trump administration that this is not okay. These sorts of indiscriminate raids will not make us safer; they are meant to instill fear in our communities, all while stripping our friends and neighbors of their rights and dignity.

“The New Jersey Legislature must immediately pass the The Immigrant Trust Act (S3672/A4987) to ensure that state and local resources are not weaponized for federal immigration enforcement. This is critical legislation to safeguard the rights and privacy of everyone who lives here.

“In the coming days, I will be working closely with local immigrants rights groups to collaborate on policies that will protect our most vulnerable communities under this Trump administration.”
